Utility crews continue to restore power

“An ugly night” – that’s how one utility company describes the havoc created by high winds that downed power lines and knocked out power to tens of thousands of customers across Vermont Wednesday night.

Central Vermont Public Service spokesman Steve Costello says 11,000 CVPS customers are without electricity Thursday morning that’s down from 28,000 last night. Costello says outages are scattered throughout the state, though the Bennington and Brattleboro areas are worst off. The good news is that no new outages are being reported at this point.

Utility crews will have a full day of work pulling down tree limbs and restoring lines. The challenge, Costello says, is that many of the problem areas affect only one or two customers and they are widely spread across the state.
