A decision by the board that oversees the rates and quality of service of the state’s public utilities is going to make it easier for the state’s largest landline telephone and Internet company to be more responsive to its customers.
The recent decision by the Vermont Public Service Board maintains price regulation for basic local telephone service but enables FairPoint Communications to offer customers or potential customers near instant answers on the prices they would have to pay for other telephone services.
North Carolina-based FairPoint Communications owns most of Vermont’s traditional landline telephone system, and as such the utility has been subject to price regulation by the Public Service Board. Basic telephone rates will be the same across Vermont.
