Vermont’s top federal prosecutor will leave his job at the end of the month and take a position with the Justice Department in Washington.
Thomas Anderson will leave his job on Feb. 28.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Van de Graaf will serve as acting U.S. attorney until a permanent replacement can be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy has nominated Burlington attorney Tristram Coffin to be Vermont’s next U.S. attorney.
Anderson was named to the post by former President Bush in 2006.
During Anderson’s time as U.S. attorney, his office has focused on child exploitation cases, gun crimes, white collar offenses and other crimes.
