United Way funding decision upsets some organizations

The United Way of Chittenden County has cut funding to some of the organizations it provided aid to in recent years, and that has some people in the region upset.

Gretchen Morse is the executive director of the regional charity organization. Morse says it decided two years ago to re-evaluate its whole range of giving. Some new recipients have been added, while others have seen grants reduced or discontinued.

The Burlington Salvation Army lost $23,000 in United Way funding. Salvation Army Major Karin Dickson says that’s going to hurt the organization’s ability to provide shelter to those in need.

The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity also saw its United Way funding reduced.
