Workers representatives say it’s unclear if any workers at the Essex Junction IBM plant were let go as part of nationwide layoffs.

Documents submitted by laid-off workers to a labor union representing a small percentage of IBM employees, says at least 1,500 jobs were cut Monday across the country.

It’s not known where the positions were located.

Lee Conrad of the Alliance at IBM tells the Burlington Free Press there could be a handful of cuts at the Essex Junction facility, but officials don’t know.

IBM officials refused to comment.

The Essex Junction plant employs about 5,000 people.
