Unemployment ticks up in October .1 percent

Vermont Labor Commissioner Patricia Moulton Powden says the state’s unemployment rate is pretty much holding steady.

Statistics released yesterday show the rate went up one-tenth of one percent last month to reach 4.3 percent.

The October 2007 rate compares to a rate of 3.7 percent in October 2006.

The unemployment rates of Vermont’s 17 labor market areas ranged from 2.1 percent in Hartford to 5.1 percent in Newport.

The statistics showed he business and professional services sector added 200 jobs in October while private education services and the state government lost 400 seasonally adjusted jobs.
