Vermonter Peter Hall is one step closer to assuming a seat on one of the most important courts in the country. Hall’s appointment to the second circuit court of appeals won the unanimous endorsement of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

Hall is currently the U.S. attorney for Vermont and was nominated to the judicial post by President Bush in December. He has the backing of Republican Governor Jim Douglas as well as both Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy and independent Senator James Jeffords.

The nomination now goes to the full Senate, but Thursday’s vote by the Judiciary Committee indicates there shouldn’t be any problems there.
