(Host) Two teenagers have been arraigned in connection with an alleged arson fire and the deaths of an Isle La Motte couple on Sunday. The two teenagers, 19-year-old Heath Lockerby and 17-year-old Quinton Teeple, were charged Wednesday with arson, burglary and two counts of first-degree murder. They were ordered held without bail.

Lockerby and Teeple are accused of stabbing to death George and Anna Fleury and then setting fire to their home to try to cover it up. Vermont State Police say the teenagers allegedly were attempting to steal a safe that they had been told contained thousands of dollars.

Grand Isle State’s Attorney David Miller said the pair knew the Fleurys. Both teenagers also live on Isle La Motte, a small community in the Lake Champlain Islands northwest of Burlington.

(Miller) “The Fleurys were the kind of people – they had a pool, their own pool. And in the summertime they would open it up to people who wanted to swim. And at least one of these people, if not both of them, used to go there and swim.”

(Host) Miller said it appears robbery was a motive, since a safe was removed from the house. He said that area residents helped police in their investigation.

(Miller) “There were some specific leads that the officers had that they followed up on, most of whom are on the islands there, mostly in Isle La Motte. And most were cooperative to the extent that they had any information.”

(Host) Miller said the last murder in Grand Isle County occurred in the mid-1970s.
