Two New Hampshire non-profits in the North Country are receiving federal grants aimed at helping the region diversify its economy.

The North Country Council is getting a $60,000 grant to continue developing an economic develop strategy. The Northern Community Investment Corporation is getting a $130,000 grant that will be used to recruit new businesses and revitalize Main Streets in Berlin and Gorham.

The grants were announced yesterday by Senators Judd Gregg and John Sununu, who each said diversifying the economy in the north is especially important given the imminent closure of the Wausau paper mill in Groveton.
