Officials say two milk tanker trucks and a car were involved in a fiery crash on Interstate 89 in Montpelier that killed two people yesterday.

Assistant Medical Examiner Scott Gagnon says the cab of one of the milk trucks caught fire following the crash early Monday morning, killing the driver, 43-year-old Christopher Trivento, of Fairfield. A passenger in the car, 62-year-old Linda Hall of Waterbury, died at the hospital.

The crash closed both lanes of Interstate 89 for several hours between Berlin and Middlesex.

The northbound lane was reopened a few hours after the crash.

State transportation officials say the southbound lane reopened around 5:30 last night after the milk was transferred to other trucks.

State police say roadways were wet with patches of ice at the time of the accident.
