About 20 people are homeless after an early morning fire destroyed part of an apartment building in downtown Brattleboro.

There were no serious injuries in the early Sunday morning fire.

Brattleboro Fire Chief Michael Bucossi says the fire started in a first floor apartment of the Lawrence Block. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

All the tenants in the 15-unit complex were moved because electricity and water were shut off.

Six apartments were destroyed.

About 50 firefighters from departments in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts battled the blaze, which was brought under control about three hours after it was reported.
