Trout season kicks off this month, with opening day on April 12.
Although some lakes and ponds will still have ice, officials with the Fish and Wildlife Department say good trout fishing can be found early in inlets and outlets.
They say stream fishing will be best where the current is slower and recommend that anglers look for fish along the bottom in deep pools and behind large rocks.
Fishermen also are reminded to use lead-free sinkers.
