A Vermont state trooper accused of molesting a 14-year old girl has resigned but his attorney says he denies the allegations.

Fifty-three-year-old Mark Beezup of Derby has not been charged.

A Vermont State Police spokeswoman said as of Friday Beezup was no longer working for the state police, where he had been employed since 2003.

Attorney General Bill Sorrell said Monday the allegations are being investigated.

Defense attorney David Sleigh of St. Johnsbury told the Burlington Free Press that police have been investigating the allegations for a month and have nothing to corroborate the theory.

Court records show police seized laptops, a cell phone and other items from Beezup’s home on Feb. 3.

Beezup has been on paid administrative leave since Jan. 31.
