Transformer move backs up traffic

It’s been slow going today on parts of Interstate 89, as another huge electrical transformer is moving down the highway.

Two big trucks in front and back of a giant trailer have been carrying the transformer at about ten miles per hour from.

It’s headed to a utility substation in Williamstown.

Traffic backed up behind it for more than a mile for much of the way.

An official with the Dutch-based moving company says the public shouldn’t worry about the load of nearly 700,000 pounds crossing the several bridges on Interstate 89 between the Burlington area and Williamstown.

Those jitters have been prompted in part by last week’s bridge collapse in Minnesota.
