Townshend Seeks State Funds For Senior Center Expansion

The town of Townshend is seeking state funds to expand a community-designed senior housing complex.

Townshend’s select board has agreed to apply for a development grant to build 12 additional housing units at the West River Valley Assisted Living Facility.

Last month, Valley Cares, the nonprofit that runs the project, said its assisted living units are so much in demand that it needs to build more.

Town officials say the expansion will mostly benefit low-income seniors.

Some board members want to make sure issues surrounding water runoff are addressed before construction.
