Town clocks still chime in some Vermont communities, but over the years many have fallen silent. In the early 1800’s making these clocks for town halls and church steeples was an artisan’s craft. For example, the tower clock that still stands in Norwich was built by Stephen Hasham of Charleston, New Hampshire. He built only ten clocks in his lifetime.
Don Lathrop has worked on the restoration of that clock and others in the region. He’s a self-described clock nut who’s fascinated by the history of town clocks.
