Town Clerk sues selectboard over new policy

East Montpelier’s town clerk is suing the town, accusing the selectboard of keeping her from doing her job as town treasurer.

Teresa Conti says since December the three selectboard members have locked her out of the town’s computer system. She says that prevented her from fulfilling her duties because she no longer has access to enter or correct data in town records or write checks on town accounts.

Conti’s lawyer, says she is open to resolving the matter out of court.

An injunction asking the court to intervene says Conti, the town and its citizens will be severely injured by the selectboard’s “continued refusal to restore her functions and access to the town’s accounts, checkbook, invoices and funds.”

Town attorney Bruce Bjornlund says the town will respond after reviewing the lawsuit.
