(Host) State Auditor Tom Salmon announced that he wants to keep his job for another two years.

VPR’s Ross Sneyd reports.

(Sneyd) Salmon, a Democrat, won election in 2006 only after a recount overturned the original result and he was declared the winner over Republican incumbent Randy Brock.

He says he’d like to avoid another nail-biter in 2008.

(Salmon) “I love this job. This is the best job in Montpelier to foster accountability and improve process. And, besides, I wanted to bring a little attention to myself because I want to hopefully win by more than 102 votes in November.”

(Sneyd) Salmon says he intends to run even though he faces the possibility of being called up for active duty in the U-S Navy.

(Salmon) “At this point, I see no barrier between myself being able to go forward as state auditor.”

(Sneyd) Salmon’s a member of the Navy Reserves and he disclosed last year that he could be sent overseas for at least six months.

He says he still doesn’t know whether he’ll be called up, but he still intends to run for a second term.

For VPR News, I’m Ross Sneyd.
