A severe thunderstorm watch was posted from Fair Haven to Canaan Thursday afternoon and, sure enough thunder, lightning, and hail up to an inch and a quarter in diameter jarred some residents of Clinton County, New York and northwestern Vermont. The rain continued and the National Weather Service in Burlington said some areas received up to two inches.
The downpour sent office workers scurrying to roll up car windows and watch hailstones bounce on the pavement; 30-40 mile per hour winds downed trees in one area northeast of Essex Junction. The severe weather is expected to subside by late Thursday evening, making way for party cloudy skies Friday.
