Three areas of rural Vermont will be getting money to help provide broadband Internet services in remote parts of the state.
The Vermont Telecommunications Authority announced it had awarded $180,000 as part of the 2008-2009 Broadband Grant Program.
The grants will help provide coverage in the towns of Lunenburg, Guidhall and Maidstone in Essex County, West Fairlee and Topsham in Orange County and Stratton in Windham County.
The goal of the grants is to create demonstration projects that will help provide high speed Internet access.
The Telecommunications Authority is trying to provide broadband service available to all Vermonters by 2010.
