The husband of the late Grand Isle County sheriff is one of three people seeking to be appointed to the post left vacant by her death.

Sheriff’s Deputy Ray Allen of South Hero is the husband of former Sheriff Connie Allen. Allen committed suicide earlier this month. She was one of the first women to be elected sheriff in Vermont.

Also seeking the post are James Fuller Jr. of Grand Isle, a retired patrol sergeant, detective and school resource officer with the Winooski Police Department; and Jason Williams of Fairfield, a patrol corporal with the St. Albans City Police Department.

The Burlington Free Press says the Grand Isle County Democratic Committee will recommend a name to Governor Peter Shumlin, but Shumlin is not required to select the person recommended to him.
