Fire crews from around central Vermont have been busy Tuesday morning with three fires in Barre City caused by lightning strikes.
The fires were reported Tuesday morning within minutes of each other just after a line of strong thunderstorms moved through the region.
Two of the structures were house fires just east of downtown. And the other one was also a house, located in an area south of the central business district.
City Manager Steve MacKenzie says perhaps as many as a half dozen fire departments have been called in to assist the Barre City department.
"We’ve had, seeing all the fire trucks go by City Hall, very strong mutual aid response to the Allen Street fire," MacKenzie said. "I think some of the departments have been deployed to the other two fires."
The fires are now under control. No injuries have been reported, although some pets were reported missing.
City officials are also dealing with basement flooding on Main Street, possibly due to the intense rains or complicated by Main Street reconstruction.
