In his non-fiction books, Vermont author James Tabor took us to the peaks of Mount Denali, and to the bottom of some of the world’s most challenging supercaves.

For his new novel, "The Deep Zone," Tabor has turned to intrigue and suspense. The plot involves a brilliant and beautiful scientist who teams up with a mysterious special ops soldier in an effort to find a cure for an epidemic that’s killing American soldiers in Afghanistan.

VPR’s Neal Charnoff speaks with Tabor about his latest work and his many personal adventures, including exploring some of the world’s deepest caves.

Tabor will be appearing at Barnes and Noble in South Burlington Tuesday at 7 p.m.
