A North Clarendon man says Gary Sampson told him he had killed other people and wouldn’t hesitate to kill him.

The testimony of William Gregory came today in the federal capital trial of Sampson, who was arrested in Vermont after killing two people in Massachusetts and one in New Hampshire in 2001.

Gregory says he picked up Sampson, who was hitchhiking on US Route Four, thinking he was a stranded businessman.

He says Sampson soon pulled out a knife and ordered him to turn onto the first dirt road they saw.

Instead, Gregory turned into a highway turnoff, jumped from the car while it was still moving and fled as Sampson tried to run him over.
