Vermont’s tax commissioner has issued his tax rate recommendations, but he’s suggesting that lawmakers not accept them.

Thomas Pelham, who’s being sued by the state School Boards Association for not complying with a Dec. 1 deadline, issued the recommendations Monday, calling for reducing the residential property tax rate by two cents per $100 of assessed value, from 87 cents to 85 cents.

The nonresidential rate would drop from $1.36 to $1.34.

A court hearing was set for Tuesday on the suit by the School Boards Association and four school districts – Otter Valley Union High School District 8, Cornwall School District, U-32 High School District in East Montpelier and the Wallingford Town School District.
