A lawyer hired by the Town of Brattleboro to investigate a July 24th incident in which two non-violent protesters were stunned with a Taser gun says the decision by police to use the weapon was “unnecessary and excessive.”
Gordon Black is a Bennington County attorney hired to look into the incident. He told town officials in a report that police were hasty in turning to the stun guns when responding to the protest by Jonathan Crowell and Samantha Kilmurray.
A lawyer for the two says he’ll soon file suit against the town over the incident.
Crowell and Kilmurray were hit with the Taser when they refused to unchain themselves from a barrel during a protest over development on Putney Road.
But Black says there’s no evidence they were threatening or harming anyone.
