Democratic House Speaker Gaye Symington is expected to announce today that she’s running for governor.
Symington says she’s planning to make an announcement, but she won’t say what she’s going to talk about.
But two Democratic officials, one who holds statewide office and the other a high-ranking legislator, say Symington is going to use the event to launch her gubernatorial bid.
Both officials requested anonymity because they had not been authorized to speak for Symington’s campaign.
Symington, a 54-year-old Jericho Democrat and two-term House speaker, has said she was “seriously considering” trying to unseat three-term incumbent Republican Gov. Jim Douglas.
She recently announced she would not seek re-election to her House seat.
