The Northeast Kingdom town of Sutton has raised $11,000 to fight a proposed wind energy project.

Townspeople already had raised $4,300 dollars in donations and then a fund-raising spaghetti supper earlier this month raised another $7,000.

Half of the amount from the supper came from an anonymous donor.

UPC Vermont Wind has proposed building two wind turbines on Norris Mountain in Sutton and another fourteen in neighboring Sheffield.

At the March town meeting, Sutton overwhelmingly voted against the wind project.

The town previously had appropriated $25,000 to pay a lawyer.

A special town meeting will be held in November to decide whether to pay for future legal expenses.
