A lawyer for the Rutland Herald says the newspaper should be given access to public records relating to a Vermont State Police investigation into a state police academy employee suspected of looking at child pornography while on duty.
Matthew Byrne says the public has a right to know when public officials commit misconduct.
The Vermont Supreme Court heard arguments yesterday on that and another case dealing with the Herald’s quest to get records from an investigation into suspected viewing of child pornography by three City of Rutland police employees.
The court, which heard oral arguments in the cases at Vermont Law School in South Royalton, didn’t immediately rule.
