Supermarket Closing Worries People In Bradford

The planned closing of Bradford’s only supermarket has people in that community concerned.

Its owner, Penn Traffic, filed for bankruptcy protection last November. And the company says the P&C store will close at the end of the month.

In a place where unemployment hovers at 7.6 percent, that’s about 1 percentage point above the state average, the loss of the supermarket’s 41 jobs is a big blow.

Customers are also worried. Becky Christian lives in West Topsham and shops regularly at the store. Christian says she doesn’t care what replaces it. She tells the Valley News that she just hopes it’s a store that’s affordable.
