Former Governor John Sununu became chairman of New Hampshire’s Republican Party this weekend, saying Democrats are ruining the state and proclaiming 2010 will be a great election year for his party.

His Democratic counterpart, Ray Buckley, congratulated Sununu on taking over at a time when Democratic voters outnumber Republicans in a state where Democratic office-holders are in control.

After being selected, Sununu sent a fundraising e-mail entitled "The Road to 2010 Begins Now!" In it, he said the state faces a crisis in management, spending and accountability and blamed the Democrats.

Sununu said the party must begin now to prepare for the 2010 elections with energy, commitment and money.
