A young skier at Mount Sunapee ski resort was thrown from a chairlift and fell 20 feet when the lift malfunctioned yesterday. Officials say the North Peak Triple chairlift stopped suddenly and deroped. The skier slide under the bar and fell. State police say he was taken to a hospital in New London and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Other skiers on the lift were evacuated safely.

Safety officials say the lift has been inspected every year and its last inspection was in November.

They say Tramway Safety Bureau records indicate there have been no previous incidents involving this lift since it was installed in mid 1980s. The lift likely will remain closed for several weeks.
