Summer School

This edition of Summer School takes us out onto Lake Champlain for an introduction to the fine craft of small boat sailing.

VPR’s Evan Johnson visited the Community Sailing Center in Burlington and joined a class of students learning to sail 420’s, small and fast boats with two sails popular amongst sailors of all skill levels.

We learn nautical vocabulary like "halyard" and "tiller", the difference between a tack and a jibe and discover that setting sail for the first time can be an enjoyable experience.  Just watch out for the swinging metal beam, it’s called the boom for a reason.
