Students simulate poverty to raise money for shelter

This week, a group of Champlain College students are going to try to experience what it’s like to be homeless and poor.

The students will be closer to the elements in a “tent city” in Burlington.

Participating students will have to relinquish all technology and amenities and spend one of four nights sleeping in tents.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided at an on-campus “soup kitchen.”

And the students will not have cell phones, iPods, video games or other personal amenities.

Money raised during the week will go to the Committee on Temporary Shelter.
