Friday morning 116 students from 13 colleges across the East visited dairy farms in Richmond and Jericho. They’re competing in the Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge hosted by the University of Vermont this weekend.

The students competed as teams of consultants to local farms, spending two hours at several farms. They asked the farmers questions about milk quality, vaccinations and breeding.

The student teams had six hours Friday afternoon to write up an analysis of the farms’ strengths, weaknesses and areas where farm operations can improve. The presentations will be reviewed by a panel of judges on Saturday.
