(Host) Federal economic stimulus spending has created or retained almost 2,000 jobs in Vermont.
That’s according to a report released today by Tom Evslin, who is Vermont’s chief recovery officer.
Evslin says the total was a little higher than he expected – and higher than what many other states reported.
(Evslin) "Part of the reason, which we knew about, is that VTrans has done a very good job of getting jobs out quickly. Cold-weather states have to do that anyway, because we aren’t going to be doing construction all winter. But even among the cold-weather states, VTrans has gotten money out very quickly."
(Host) Vermont got nearly $56 million from the stimulus law over the past three months. It was spent on transportation construction, youth employment, public safety and schools.
Nationally, about $16 billion was spent and more than 30,000 jobs were created or retained.
