Stimulus Created Fewer VT Jobs Than Thought

Officials say the federal stimulus program created about 400 fewer jobs in Vermont than once thought because the calculations used to count the jobs were changed.

Earlier this month Vermont Chief Recovery Officer Tom Evslin said $55.9 million in federal stimulus money had created or saved about 1,990 jobs.

Now he says the count is about 20 percent less.

The Burlington Free Press says the biggest changes came in transportation jobs.

Evslin says the data used to calculate the number of jobs created hasn’t changed, but has changed is the way officials want to turn the number of hours and weeks into jobs.
