A lawyer for a former state worker accused of embezzling $490,000 says his client will plead guilty.

Mark Kaplan is defense attorney for Kathy Lantagne, and tells The Associated Press that the former Department for Children and Families supervisor – who previously pleaded not guilty to mail fraud conspiracy – will change her plea to those charges Friday.

At a hearing set for U.S. District Court in Burlington today she will also plead guilty to theft from a program receiving federal funds and to filing a false tax return.

In September prosecutors accused Lantagne of stealing the money over a five-year period by having the state issue 250 checks that were mailed to her sister Deborah Tuller, who was sentenced last month to 13 months in prison.
