State says more budget cuts on the way

With more bad economic news expected today, the state plans to make more budget cuts by year’s end.

Administration Secretary Neale Lunderville says the cuts would be "in the neighborhood" of $28 million and could include layoffs.

He says the administration has to work with the Legislature’s Joint Fiscal Committee to develop a plan in the next few weeks.

The legislative committee and the Emergency Board will meet with economists today to hear the latest revenue projections.

Several groups are demanding that any more cuts be reviewed by the full Legislature. They also want the state to use rainy day funds, which the governor’s administration opposes.
