State Says High-Elevation Hiking Trails Are Closed

The Vermont commissioner of forest, parks and recreation wants hikers to stay away from high-elevation hiking trails for now.

Commissioner Jason Gibbs says, even though there’s been unseasonably warm weather this spring, trails in the mountains are still muddy.

It takes longer for those areas to dry out and trails in the upper elevations will remain closed until Memorial Day weekend.

The parks department does have suggestions for trails that are ideal for this time of the year at its Web site.
