Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas says a weekend of negotiations has resulted in $19.7 million in cuts to the state budget.

Officials spent the weekend trying to pare $37 million from the current budget to deal with the economic downturn.

The administration says officials spent the weekend trying to come up with the cuts, but stopped at the $19.7 million figure.

The administration says the state budget is expected to come up $66 million short in the current fiscal year. Of that $37 million shortfall is due to an expected shortfall in revenue. The rest is due to increases in costs of existing programs.

The cuts are due to be released at 10 a.m.
