Governor Jim Douglas says the state is moving up the repaving of a section of Interstate 89 north of Montpelier.

Douglas says another planned highway repair will be deferred to the next fiscal year in order to fix the much traveled stretch of interstate beginning early in June. The bumpy section between Montpelier and Richmond has been a sore spot for motorists.

Originally, the state planned to repair only part of the highway later in the summer. Douglas says the state now plans to repave both the north and southbound lanes of the interstate.

Eighty percent of the cost will be paid by the federal government.
