The state is opening its parks, fishing holes and historic sites this weekend in an annual attempt to show more Vermonters the attractions available close by. Saturday is Free Fishing Day for residents and non-residents alike. That includes a fishing festival for children at the Ed Weed Fish Culture Station in Grand Isle, where children will be able to catch a rainbow trout from a stocked pond.

All of the 46 Vermont State Park day areas and the state’s ten historic sites will be open for free on both days of the weekend. John Dumville, the chief of the state’s historic sites, says early June is traditionally a slow time for the sites and this is a way to encourage people to visit them.
