The state Corrections Chief says the Vermont prison inmate who killed himself in Florida had threatened prison staff and other inmates.
And that’s why 53-year-old James Richitelli of Eastford, Connecticut, had been sent to a maximum security federal prison.
But Corrections Commissioner Rob Hofmann says there was no indication he posed a threat to himself.
Richitelli’s death will be investigated by the federal bureau of prisons.
Officials say Richitelli was found hanging in his cell just before 4:30 Monday afternoon. Richitelli pleaded guilty last year to a charge of aggravated murder for the killing of 47-year-old Thomas Patras and 36-year-old Valerie Papillo in Montgomery.
