The state of Vermont wants to study ways consumers can get a better deal on home heating fuel.

The Department of Public Service announced Tuesday it is seeking proposals from potential contractors to study how to give consumers a leg up when shopping for heating fuel.

The department wants the study to look at the availability of different types of fuels, the use of new and emerging technologies, fuel diversification and how consumers can leverage better prices.

The director of consumer and public affairs Stephen Wark says he expects the study will look in part at steps other states have taken, and determine which of them would best fit Vermont’s heating fuel marketplace.
