(Host) The state Legislature’s Medical Marijuana Study Committee has concluded that marijuana has medical value as a drug that can ease pain. The 12-member panel has been meeting over the past three months to study the issue and make recommendations to the legislature.

Debbie Ramsdell was chairwoman of the committee. She says everyone in the group agreed that marijuana has some value for some people with certain illnesses or conditions:

(Host) “The other thing we all all of us could agree on was that we think that marijuana should be changed from a Level 1 drug to a Level 2. Which means that, again, that it has value to people. Whereas I think that the Bush administration basically feels that it doesn’t have any medical value. And we don’t agree with that.”

(Host) The panel was represented by doctors, patients, law enforcement officials, and a judge.
