Burlington Telecom officials will appear today before the Vermont Public Service Board to answer questions about how the municipal utility will go forward now that its major creditor says it plans to repossess its equipment.

The city phone, cable and Internet service is about $50 million in debt and under federal and state criminal investigation.

City officials have acknowledged that BT improperly used $17 million in funds from a general city account. Its state license says it must be freestanding and not rely on taxpayer money.
