The state’s Agency of Transportation has been assessing the damage to town roads after severe storms swept through four counties last week.

Joe Flynn, Director of Vermont Emergency Management, describes the damage in Lamoille, Orleans, Addison and Windham counties: "Culverts being washed out because of torrents of water. Some levels of debris of course, also plugging culverts causing the water to divert and then taking out the road that the culvert is in. Current estimations that we have reported in are at $1.2 million and that’s probably expected to grow slightly."

Flynn says the cost of repairs could make the state eligible for federal emergency funds. He says FEMA is now doing its assessment.
