St. Johnsbury May Feel Impact of Woodstock Jail Closing

(Host) The St. Johnsbury Select Board is worried that the state is trying to boost the population of the local prison. Legislators met with the Select Board earlier this week to discuss what’s going on with the Corrections Department.

The Department is seeking to close the Woodstock jail. There are fears that the closing will put additional pressure on other jails around the state, including the prison and work camp in Saint Johnsbury.

State Senator Julius Canns says the Senate is working on two bills that would keep the Woodstock jail open until a new prison opens in Springfield.
