St. J police to suspend anti-Jaywalking campaign

The St. Johnsbury Police Department is giving up its campaign to fight jaywalking, at least for now.

Authorities say police began the campaign after too many people were being hits by cars.

So officers have been handing out $84 tickets to people who did not cross at designated crosswalks.

But a lot of people complained to the select board.

So Police Chief Richard Leighton told officers to stop ticketing jaywalkers. Leighton is planning to talk with the board about the issue.
